Happy New Year 2012

2012 Membership

At the AGM, the issue of providing funds for the occasional but very high major maintenance costs of the court surfaces was raised (£40-£60 thousand pounds over a 10-15 year period). Clearly the Academy has the major responsibility here, but the club is rightly expected to contribute through the hire fees set by the CRA for use of the courts by members.
The Club is developing a Financial Plan that aims to assure the long term viability of the Club at Chulmleigh, and the Committee has reviewed our membership fees against those of other Devon clubs. We have found that our fees are generally lower and have a slightly different structure. We have also made comparisons of facilities provided – where we have to recognise that while our courts and tennis programmes match the best, at most times the Hall complex is not open for changing facilities, loos, shelter, and so on. Overall the Committee has deemed it necessary and appropriate to re-structure and increase the fees slightly for 2012, as follows:
Adult: £50
Silver : £40 (65+)
Family: £110 (2 adults +children under 18)
Single family: £60 (1 adult + children under 18)
Junior: £20 (12-18 or 21 for students in full-time education)
Mini: £10 (11 and under)
Social: £25

Finals Day saw an exciting 3 set match between the plate mens doubles, followed by the last BBQ of the season. Next year we will have to review the tournament so that it stays on track right through to the end, maybe by bringing the last round forward, as August is obviously a difficult month to manage. Please feed back to committee members if you can offer any solutions! Many thanks to Pete for all his hard work!

August already and the committee are busy organizing Autumn coaching. We plan to run a full afternoon/evening of coaching with John Griffiths, so please support this by signing up and paying early so that we can manage the budget, bearing in mind there are increased costs during the winter, so coaching fees need to cover the use of floodlights.
