Spring 2015

Spring Newsletter 2015

February already…lots happening at CTC!

The most obvious change has been the painting of netball lines over the tennis courts on Wednesday 18 February. These are temporary lines as it is too cold to paint them permanently. Handball is also mentioned as another sport that uses the courts.

We have been holding discussions with the Chulmleigh Recreational Association (CRA) about the Academy’s intentions for a few weeks. The CRA are pressing for the Academy to take action over the maintenance of the courts by washing, re-colouring and relining. We are requesting this to happen this year, as obviously the courts will be subject to greater wear and tear if used for a variety of activities.

We have known for some time that our sole usage of the courts would come to an end in 2016, but it was a surprise that the Academy brought this forward by a year, although there has been evidence of extended use for sometime. Our nets and posts are suffering during school use and we are disappointed that our equipment is not respected.

The Academy has shown little commitment to the maintenance of the courts, as with some other sporting facilities in the past and present and these latest actions make the future more uncertain. The committee is actively exploring the implications and options facing the club. We welcome your thoughts and ideas.

Safeguarding and Protection in Tennis
Frances Auty is our new Safeguarding Officer.

Frances Auty and Maggie Samuel attended a Safeguarding Course at Exeter Tennis Centre on 17 February. If you have any concerns about anything to do with Safeguarding and Protection contact either of us via the club. We are committed to providing a safe venue for all our members.

New Season 2015

You can pay by installment by prior agreement.

Winners: Brian Hillan and Dave Gardner

Coffee morning Saturday 21 March 2015 at 9am in the Town Hall, Chulmleigh.
Last year the coffee morning raised an impressive £266 for CTC! However help and attendance from members was disappointing.

We need you for donations towards…
1. A hamper (tinned food, drink, biscuits, non-perishables)
2. A Bring & Buy stall (books, plants, cakes, bric-a-brac, recently loved items or unwanted Xmas presents!)
3. Raffle prizes (drink, chocolates, toiletries and unwanted new Xmas presents!)

Jessie Fulbrooke and her team have already offered to run the kitchen, so no members needed there! She will even provide free of charge (as a donation to the tennis club) the milk, tea and coffee. As she is well over 90, we don’t see her as a prospective member – just a generous local.

On the day we need help to organise the raffle, the Bring & Buy stall, the town coffee run, the extras such as ‘Spot the Ball’ or any other tennis themed game that we can charge £1 a go for. Set up is about 8.30am for a prompt 9am start and it’s all over by 11am, leaving plenty of time for a game of tennis afterwards!

Please donate something, buy raffle tickets, make an appearance and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee, biscuit, cake or sausage roll. Looking forward to seeing you there… you will be able to renew your membership on the day to make sure you are ready for 1 April.

THIS IS OUR MAIN OPPORTUNITY TO RAISE FUNDS AND PROMOTE THE CLUB IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY PLEASE HELP WITH THIS FUNDRAISING EVENT!
